Is it ok to give dd (10) an ibuprofen tablet?

On the box it says not be given to under 12s.

However it also says that 1 tablet = 200mg

Infant ibuprofen syrup is 100mg per 5ml spoon and the dose for a 10 year old is 2 spoons.

I'd ring NHS and double check TBH.

I give my 10 yr old the tablets these days. Not sure a syrup comprising sugar and/or sweeteners plus flavouring makes the identical dosage any safer - as long as they are fine with swallowing tablets!

My DD would never take medicine but would happily take any tablet, so she was on ibuprofen tablets from 8 years old - that's when she could have 200mg.

The doctor recommended them.

dh is less convinced, he has read the box and says she shouldn't have it. It's not worth pushing it at the mo as she doesn't seem too bad.

i'd not hesitate, and have been giving dd one tablet (she is ten) for 6months or so now.

My son (who's 10) has been taking ibuprofen as a tablet for a year or two now. Just remember that with tabs it's even more important than with the syrup, to ensure you don't take it on an empty stomach
