Toddler with flu, nose bleeding, worried :-(

My DD (2,3) had a very bad night on THursday night with high temps (above 40 - but this is usual for her when she is sick) and on Friday I rang her doctor. She couldn't see her before next Monday, but advised that what I described (temps, pale, runny nose, loss of appetite) sounded like the start of a bout of flu. There is a rotten flu epidemic here at the moment.

Since then we have been controlling the temp with paracetemol and Ibuprofen as necessary and basically looking after her as best we can. Also rinsing her nose with saline solution and using a baby decongestant in drop form. She's quite miserable.

Last night was quite bad again, though temperatures were better. Just very wakeful. Anyway, she woke up this morning at 7.30 and I got her up and her nose started running and it was bloody. It has remained bloody ever since and looks terrifying when she sneezes etc, but there's not really a constant flow of blood. She also goes mad when I wipe it, so I guess it's hurting.

I'm worried by the bleeding and don't know should I try and see a doctor or just soldier on until Monday. Any advice?!

Hi there I second the advice by lostonthemoors re ooh or if no luck then a&e! I hope it's got better since this morning and you feel a little more reassured.

My 2 yr Los isn't well either. I got a call from his nursery on Thurs morn as he was unwell and had a temp of 39.6. After calpol and burden he seemed so much better but then yesterday morning he started vomiting and refused any medicine! I took him to the drs who diagnosed a virus, with nothing to advise apart from everything I was already doing. Today a small improvement, eaten very small amounts but has just asked to go to sleep at 1800!! He's been asleep quite a lot today and when he is awake he has no energy.

I hate seeing him so unwell and just hope tomorrow he feels a bit brighter as its been 3 days now which seems like forever!

Hope you're little one is feeling better.

OP hope your dd is feeling a bit better and the nosebleeds have stopped. If the nosebleeds haven't stopped I would phone OOH for advice.

charlybear - you can get paracetamol suppositories at pharmacies (they may have to order them in, but will usually be next day, they are over the counter), they are brilliant for high temperatures combined with vomiting.

Dikkertjedap - thank you, I will order some in if not used for this episode but for the future. I'm not sure how he'll be with the suppositories but its always worth a shot in times if great need!
