Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help me, my youngest son is 6 months old and last Tuesday night we had to take him to the out of hours doc as his temp was high, his chest was wheezy and he was generally miserable the doc said he had a double infection one in his chest one in his right ear and so she prescribed a 10 day course of amoxicillin, we started them on Wednesday morning. Generally he is loads better but he is still wheezy if this normal? That after 6 days of treatment he still sounds the same? Im a bit reluctant to take him back yet as he's still got a few days of treatment left and he's eating fine and having lots of wet/dirty nappies. Sorry for the essay ;)

Take him back if you are unsure. No decent doctor would mind taking another look at a 6mo baby with a chest infection.

If he's fine in himself I'd be tempted to wait before taking him back but only you will know how much his breathing is being affected.

Did the GP recommend lots of steam?

Thanks for the comments,
His breathing's not bad it's just this wheeze, he's not struggling for breath and he's not sucking his tummy in when he is breathing either so I don't know if its all the mucus that's coming off him and he's a bit to young to understand that he needs to cough it up!

I feel like a worried first time mum, you wouldn't think he's my fourth lol,
Thanks again :-)

Is it a wheeze or a mucousy rattle?

Dd always has a horrible sounding rattle when recovering from a chest infection.

However if its a wheeze I'd get him checked.

Take him back and check. It's possible he has a bug with a resistance to amoxicillin. When dd1 had pneumonia the first antibiotic didn't work and they thought it was probably resistant to whatever she was having.

I think I'll take him back tomorrow, it will give me piece of mind, thanks again :-)
