My DD is due to have a kidney biospy and I have been trying to explain it to her. Can anyone give me share experience about what it is like afterwards so that I can talk to her better and prepare her? Also are there any child UK kidney groups or forums? I've only managed to find adult ones.
Many thanks.

Hi Boboma, my DD did have a kidney biopsy aged 5 and a skin biopsy at the same time. Will try to remember what I can.

She was out for about 30mins. i think the worse thing was she couldn't eat beforehand. She was The actual biopsy did not bother her at all. Try and get a nice DVD to watch afterwards (the hosp we were in had a DVD player.

Sorry never used any kidney groups/forums.

Thanks BunnyBing. That's a very reassuring message & has helped a lot to know that it wasn't too much of a big thing for your DD. Thanks for the tip about the DVD - will do that!

Yes - meant to say she was worried about the anaesthetic going in (didn't like needles from all the blood tests), but afterwards ie once she was awake again the actual biopsy didn't bother her. She was in hosp for a couple of days afterwards, but once home could go back to school pretty much straightaway, just took it easy for a week.
