Red spots appearing on 8mo DD's arms and legs... what are they?

Pic on profile... she has suddenly developed a series of red blotches/spots- they ae not raised, are clustered around her arms and legs and blanche when pressed. She has had a cold and a bad cough for a day or two. She's a bit off her food, but has had no temperature. She has just brought a bit of her dinner up, but she is quite a sicky baby, so not that unusual.

Any idea what it could be? Post-viral rash or something more serious? My first thought was CP, but CP spots appear like blisters at first IIRC?

I am crap at this stuff... should I worry?

My DS tends to get little rashes when he has a bit of a virus. Why don't you ring the out of hours doctor? It's sensible to get someone to see a little one if they are not well. It's much better to do it now rather than at midnight and then you'll know for sure.

I may do... Thanks minieggs.

She seems well apart from the cold and cough.

From your picture it could still be chickenpox. They sometimes take a day to blister. If you're concerned get her looked at, but otherwise treat the symptoms and wait and see.

Agree, may well blister in a day or so. DS1 started just like that.

tethersend · 02/02/2013 00:21

Oh no. Hope it's not CP.

Thanks though. Will watch and wait.

Hmm... well, checked them this morning and they've faded; most of them have disappeared. Can I assume it's not CP?

They look like insects bites to me.

RooneyMara · 02/02/2013 13:37

I was going to say bites...btw Tethers who did that painting, it's very good.

tethersend · 02/02/2013 13:38

They weren't raised at all, Sophie...

Do you think she could have reacted to ibuprofen? Her knuckles are a bit swollen now, although that could be because she keeps rubbing her face.

They look like insect bites to me, too.
Could be a mild allergic reaction to something, the kind that children outgrow on their own.

RooneyMara · 02/02/2013 13:40

good point about possibly an allergic reaction. Hmm.
