6yr old waking distressed every half hr after illness. Any suggestions?

My 6yr old has been ill for past week, vomiting, cold symptoms, temp etc he's not got much appetite and not quite 100% but much better and almost there. for last 4 nights he has been going to sleep and waking every 20mins -30mins screaming or distressed , this has gone on most of night and last night from about 10.30- 8.30 in morning. I wake him or he half wakes self and he goes straight back to sleep but obviously tired as very disturbed sleep. ( me too!) I spoke to him this morning and he knows he keeps waking up he just says it's his dreams but he can't remmeber what they are about. Any suggestions?Would be so greatful!!!

Ds does this but not as frequently and only when he's got a fever

Usually DS is a great sleeper and will occasionally wake up like this and then go back to sleep and not do it again for a month. It's juat the frequency that's concerning me.
