I don't know too much about eczema - the dr has given him dermol cream as a rich moisturiser and 1% hydrocortisone cream for 2 weeks.

DS is EBF,although I was planning to start weaning in a couple of weeks.

The dr didn't think the eczema was as a result of bath soap, laundry powder etc so what's caused it? Is there anything I can do with my diet whilst breastfeeding? Is there anything I should avoid when weaning him? Could his vaccinations have triggered/caused it? Any wisdom at all would be gratefully received, I feel like I'm in an unknown world at the moment.

Hi, I was in your shoes a few years back with DS. My experience was that there's no rhyme or reason to why you get it and there's also no one treatment that will fix it you just have to find the solution that works for you.

The hydrocortisone cream should give quick results on the worst bits but if there's no great improvement overall, go back and get a different emollient cream. Keep doing that til you find one that works for your baby. Both my DCs had mild eczema and what worked on DS didnt suit DD and vice versa. I ended up with enough different creams and potions to open a pharmacy!!

I worked my way through lots of different washing powders/liquids til I found one that didn't seem to bother DS. Liquids worked better for us.

Keep on at your doctor/HV if there's no improvement. We eventually got a referral to our local dermatology clinic which made a huge difference to the treatment DS got - much more specialised and experienced.

The main thing about eczema is that you will get bombarded with advice about what worked for everyone, the thing you have to do is find out which of all the suggested approaches will work for your baby. best of luck!

I cut out all dairy and that worked for us when ds had excema and I was ebf. He was diagnosed with lactose and casein intolerance but was given the all clear at 2 years old.

We still limit his milk intake as it gives him the most horrendous smelly wind and poos (that must be lactose) but he's fine with our home made yoghurt and mature cheese.

His skin is great now.

We used hydrocortisone a bit but it was summer and we were able to get him outside in the sun loads and that definitely helped.

This might sound weird but try a tester of dream cream from Lush, I found this cleared up eczema.
