Been ill since Thursday.

Very chesty and coughing. Rattly sounding chest.

Snotty, glazed eyes, off his food, pale, grumpy, cries suddenly for no reason.

Generally feeling rubbish. Keeping him dosed up with calpol and ibuprofen.

He fell asleep on the way back from school this morning for 40 mins, which he never does.

Slept for hour and a half this afternoon.

Fell asleep on the way home from school again this afternoon, I put him straight into bed when we got home.

He hasn't woke up yet.
Would you wake him and give him his medicine? He does feel quite warm (has a temperature) so think I should wake him-but I don't want to wake him for him to not re settle again and be grumpy and feel rubbish.

Wwyd?

I would leave him, but worry! He needs his sleep to recover i think. It's so horrible when they're ill, isn't it?

Just keep checking on him.

If he has a rattly chest, glazed eyes and a temperature then I would wake him and take him to Out of Hours Dr. No school either.

beautifulgirls · 18/12/2012 20:59

Yes, I would wake him and check him, give him meds etc.

dikkertjedap · 18/12/2012 21:15

I would try to take his temperature without waking him. What type of thermometer do you have? If you have a Braun thermoscan (ear thermometer) you should be able to take the temperature without waking him.

If he has high fever, I would get some ibuprofen (if he can already have it again) ready and sit him up, tell him to swallow the medicine and then let him sleep again (eg not totally wake him up).

I would also check how his breathing is. If any concerns at all, I would fully wake him and possibly take him to OOH/A&E depending on what your concerns are.

If he is uncomfy he will wake himself. Sleep is a good way for the body to recover.

girliefriend · 18/12/2012 21:17

I would leave him but keep a close eye on him.

glazed eyes, sick since thursi'd take him to dr, prob needs antibiotics

Beamur · 18/12/2012 21:21

Such a worry isn't it.
I think I'd leave him to sleep, but check regularly and if he's still poorly in the morning go to the Dr.

Jemma1111 · 18/12/2012 21:25

I would gently wake him with a bottle of cool boiled water as he will need lots of fluids if he's ill and off his food.

Thanks mnr's.

Went to check on him and he'd pooed! So had to get him up and change him.

Dosed him with ibuprofen though his temp isn't too bad. He didn't want any milk but he had some juice.

He's in bed still but not asleep yet, just lying there Hmm if he's no better tomorrow though I'll take him to the dr.

Thanks everyone!

Hope he's better today.

Thanks Beamur.

He is a lot better now. Eating and drinking at least, still a bit off though.

Never normally a ditherer re my dc but just wasn't sure what was best the other night!
