Is this fairly typical for the current crop of winter bugs, or do I need to worry?

DS is 8. He has had a cold and a cough that keeps coming and going for about the past fortnight; a couple of days off school when it started and then he seemed fine (and bored) at home so back he went. Yesterday the school called me to come and get him as he was feverish and headachey; he seemed a bit off colour but his temperature wasn't that high. This morning he was bright enough but this afternoon he has been miserable, complaining of headache and despite agitating for about an hour to get the Xmas decorations up, when I finally got them out of the cupboard he decided he wanted to go to bed. He's had some kid-Neurofen and is sleeping.

Basically, is headache one of the symptoms of this year's plagues? There's just a little voice in the back of my mind going, 'Headache? Mind it's not meningitis!'

My dd (7) had similar symptoms the other week. Headache, bit of a temperature and much sleepiness and lethargy.

Dh took her to out of hours doc and they seemed to think it was tonsilitis. She was off school for three days, went back and then a few days later was sick. Fine again within a few hours.

At the moment ds (2) is going through a vomiting thing. Sore tummy, sore ear and lots of sick.

It's been a tough winter so far.

If you are concerned phone NHS 24 or Direct. Hope he feels better soon.

THanks Yama. He's resurfaced, helped put up the decorations and is demanding his dinner, so I think he will probably live Xmas Confused

There's a nasty bug going round dd's school that has a cough, lots of high temperature spikes and complete lack of energy at the moment. In a school of 200, there's been an average of 55 children off every day for almost two weeks! Hope he feels better soon!

My 8 year old dd is the same at the moment, cough still linggering at night, head aches during the day, she had 2 days off school when she first got it, then the week after she had another day off and is complaining most mornings about feeling poorly. Dd2 had it but she was off for a week but was then fine, i have had it on and off for 3 weeks. Whatever it is it seems to hang on for a while Sad.

The fever without much else has done the rounds of DS1's school. Raging temperatures which are difficult to get down. Usualy last a few days.

We have something similar here. I have been unwell for more than a week and ds3 (6) likewise. Ds2 started feeling unwell on Friday night with the same symptoms but is feeling much better tonight. Dh has just taken to his bed.

My 3yo DD has had a virus very like this. It lasted about a week (though she's still snotty and a bit hoarse), beginning with a high temperature that came and went for a few days. She vomited once and was tired and miserable most of the time, complaining of earache a couple of times.

Thank God my 11w DS doesn't seem to have caught it.
