Four month old son's urine suddenly smells strong and sweet. Why??

It's been going on for past two weeks - as soon as he does a wee I can smell it. Its sweet and strong. He's fine in himself, feeding well, lots of wet nappies. He was EBF but I started him on a bit of formula a month or so ago to prepare him for when I go back to work, though he's still mainly EBF (bottle feeding fail, whole other thread.) Anyone got any idea what it might be, before I have to take myself to the doctor for the zillionth time with yet another ridiculous question about my baby... Smile

Please take him to the GP. Better to get it checked by someone qualified to check this sort of thing. Type 1 diabetes in a baby would be rare ( thankfully) and likely off a hv's radar. The chances are he's fine, but so much better to be safe, or feel silly than wish you'd gone sooner.

I will, though it may be a few days before we can be seen at this time of year. Will let you all know how we get on!

I'm sure they'd give you an emergency appointment for a baby.

Hi, sorry it's taken me so long to update. I took DS to doctor and he hasn't got diabetes, the doctor agrees it smells strong but thinks it is the change in diet from BF to formula. Thank you for all your replies and support, it's better to get these things checked out than to be worrying about them all the time!
