Administering Calpol and Nurofen to 7mth old DS - confused over timings.

This evening my very poorly 7mth old DS was diagnosed as having ear and throat infection.
As temp was 39 plus he advised giving calpol every four hours plus nurofen every six and to keep on top of it - this is where I am a bit confused wrt timings through the night.
I bought an ear thermometer in chemist as the forehead one I have is crap and when we got home at 6pm gave him his 5ml dose of amoxycillin plus 5ml infant calpol.
At 7.20pm temp had decreasd to 38.6.
At 8pm had bath and 2.5ml Nurfofen.
At 8.30pm temp had decreased to 38.
Do I give Calpol at 10pm, 2am, 6am and Nurofen at 2am and 8am - the 2am clashes with calpol?

Calpol is paracetamol. Nurofen is ibuprofen.

They can be given alternately or together but ibuprofen is better after food or feed as it can cause stomach irritation.

Obviously spacing the doses gives better cover but its the amount over 24 hrs thats important. Please don't wake him to give a dose if is temp has come down!

What's his temp doing now?

sorry should have made clearer that the GP advised this - he only looked in one of DS ears and I had to ask him to listen to his chest which sounds exactly as per when my eldest DC's had Broncilolitis but not apparently. GP is slapdash which is why I want to be sure of these timings. LO is really suffering and not PFB as is my 3rd DC so I must keep on top of it but scared to give too much. My eldest 2 DC's (9 and 6) have had both but only when in hospital and I have not administered it myself. Thanks in advance.

Remember as well to check the max dose over 24 hours.
I find alternating 3 hourly gives you good coverage.

Bless him, poorly ears are horrible.

Give him his 10pm Calpol & then a feed if he'll take it,or some cooled boiled water & try & get him off. If he wakes anytime after 12.30/1am five him the Calpol& Nurofen together to zonk him out then hopefully he'll last till 6ish.

Actually I think 5mls of ccalpol a bit much for that age. Don't worry about what he's has so far but I'd stick to 2.5 from now on if you're giving it regularly. (just checked NHS guidelines)

6-24months can have 5 mls under new rules.

Thanks Bossy. He had calpol at 11, woke at 1.30 fed and had nurofen at 2. He had a good night considering, slept well with a few little feeds - temp seems normal for now. I had forgotten the seemingly magical effect Ibuprofen can have on temperature.
