Is there anything I can give a 3.5 year old to help her sleep with chicken pox?

DD2 has chicken pox badly and has them absolutely everywhere - all over her scalp, up her nostrils, in her bottom, eyelids, in her mouth etc.
She is so tired but can't sleep, waking every 20mins or so, sometimes just not being able to even get to sleep.

she is itchy and sore. She has had piriton, calpol and ibuprofen. Nothing is helping. Have tried the calamine cream etc.

I just need something so we can all get some sleep - but don't think there is anything else she can have. Just getting desperate so thought I would ask in case I was missing something!

No sorry but when dd was like this (at 1yo) we gave her a bicarbonate o soda bath and it helped a bit. Oat baths can help too.

We found that a combination of everything you're already doing, plus loads of aveeno moisturiser ( DD1 uses it for her exzema anyway) helped. Calomine made things worse not better. The first 2 days are the worst if that helps

I used twice a day
Bicarbonate of soda, tea tree oil, lavender oil and eucalyptus oil
Twice a day
Then let them run around to dry so the oil stayed on skin (rather than towel drying)
Calamine cream
Piriton and calpol max dose

My 2 were absolutely plastered like yours, and not one scar and they slept in night, last bath and cream before bedtime and one when they got up

Bath ideas other posters suggest were good for DS & he slept ok but DD had more problems. Found a gel - Virasoothe that was better for her

Thanks, have tried all the above as DD1 had it the other week. Just wondered if there was anything to aid sleep at all. Decided to stop the creams today as I think it was stopping the spots drying out. And that seems to of helped as lots have scabbed over.

I had terrible chicken pox when I was 18, and my children got it very badly at 2 and 4.

Not the calamine cream, the water based calamine lotion, after a bath. (NOT the oil based one, that made it a lot worse on my skin.)

Also, a pack of those little round dots (the ones that come in 4 colours) are great - you can give a soft toy chicken pox with those and they are then a snuggly companion, the sisters could have one each. Also a good way for the children to say where it itches ('Winnie the Pooh has an itchy eye, and it hurts just like mine!')

Piriton syrup can cause drowsiness and ease the itching. It's for ages 1 and over.

Thanks but like I said in the OP she is already on Piriton, calpon and ibuprofen. Was much better last night anyway, think it's starting to improve.

And we have the Calamine lotion too.
