Molluscum Contagiosum - naturopath / homeopath in SW London? (Putney)

Hi there

My 4 year old DD has had MC now for c.3 months. It started out on her bottom, but now has spread to her back. Now today I've noticed one on her neck - I'm petrified it will spread to her face. I understand that doctors don't treat young children, and it just goes away eventually, but I really want to try and nip it in the bud before it spreads.

Can anyone recommend a naturopath or homeopath who treats MC, preferably in SW London?

sorry, forgot to say that DD also has atopic eczema so can't use anything harsh on her skin.

so i wouldnt personally risk trying anything that a normal doc would feel comfortable prescribing.

go back to the gp and ask again.

I had to reply because my dd had this for 3 years.. I then came across a blog which suggested manuka honey. I swear to you, within 3 days they were all gone!!

WarmBooties did you put the manuka on the molluscum or did your DD have to eat/drink it? My DS's arms, legs and torso are covered in them and are spreading and getting infected by the day. He's had them a year now and I'm desperate to find something that works. He also has exzema so I need to be careful.

The blog suggested popping them and putting the honey on it. But it hurt her so I never popped them, but did kind of squeeze it and then put lots of the honey on. I got the lowest strength honey as well- 2 jars as I thought I would need it. Literally must have put the honey on twice a day, for the 3 days and they shrivelled all down, had some marks, but they have all gone now.

It's natural so should be ok for your sons excema? If anything ask the doctor! Hope it works for you like it worked for us.

Thanks for that. There's no way he'll let me squeeze them but I might try putting some on after he's bathed so they're a bit softer. I'd been trying tea tree cream after reading another thread on here but that seems to have aggravated the excema.

I've asked the doctor a couple of times but he just keeps saying the same thing, that they'll clear up on their own over time. I told him I'd been trying tea tree cream but he said I was wasting my time because nothing works. Very frustrating as they look so sore. He's had anti biotics a couple of times for some very nasty ones that got infected, I'm fed up with them!

That's ok, I was the same with the doctors! They just printed the same thing off, and said the same. But I had just had dd2 and they were bathing together, plus dd was getting very conscious of them. Fingers crossed it works!

I have 1 dd who has had them, and one who currently still does. Was told by the doctor that they are usually gone in 18 months, which held true in the dd who does not have them anymore. I did use tea tree neat on them, which seemed to help dry them up, but I agree, it is a bit harsh on the skin.

Spray twice a day with non colloidal silver (there's an online company in devon I got mine from). DS2's "spots" we're gone within about 2months. He has eczema too and totally fine on his skin.

There is little peer-reviewed research but after long chat with my pharmacist colleague (I'm a nurse) it made sense as silver is anti microbial and non-colloidal meant it was inert and wouldn't cause any reaction.

I had these of my groin the clinic froze them but that didn't work, honey didn't work, I ended up seeing a higher up dr and he ripped them off, hurt like but nothing else worked. Apparently they go between 18 months and a year so it won't be forever even if nothing works.

I have been trying tea tree oil, but it is only really good for drying up the ones she picks! i did manage to pop a few (the yellow head came out...yuck), but she didnt let me do that again! I will try the things on here, one by one, and let you all know. It makes me so sad. TBx

We are using poxiderm. It's slow going but it seems to stop the spots getting big and exploding. If I catch the little ones early, the poxiderm seems to stop them getting bigger or clear them up. The ones that have been around for a few months (we have only been using poxiderm for a few weeks) are proving more stubborn. Oilatum bath also helps.

All of my DC have had them - awful things.

I have no advice on natural remedies, but I happened to take DC3 to the GP about something else and he noticed the molluscums. He prescribed an anti-biotic that would treat both the infection he had (can't remember what - tonsilitis?) and the molluscums.

I was amazed as his spots were gone within a week - wished I had taken him months before.

Wow. That's interesting jenesaispas. Wonder why my gp didnt mention anti-bios? Have been putting honey on her spots and also giving her a teaspoon of it in the morning for three days now. Not sure it is working, but will carry on. Will investigate poxiderm too.....

Testbunny- please try noncolloidal silver spray. PM me if you want more info but it cleared DS2s spots within a matter of weeks and he was covered in them. No scarring and it actually healed his eczema too

Plus an antibiotic cant treat MC- it's a virus

We had antibiotics for the infected ones. They cleared up the infection but not the mollascum.

Same here re the anti-biotics for the infected ones. About 3 times now, molluscum still there.

I'm really sorry, but molluscum last for about 12-18 months, then go away, and there's nothing you can do about it Sometimes they get very red and angry shortly before they go away and that's when people tend to use all sorts of remedies. It can look as if the remedies make them go away, but they would have gone anyway. PLEASE don't waste money on homeopaths, naturopaths, manuka honey- theywill go, but none of these things will make them go.

There is some evidence that quite qgressive scraping/squeezing can hurry the process- but only of they are on th wqy out anyway, and this cqn lead to scarring. If left to go naturally, they never leave scars.

Scarlet - just PMing you now. My mistake it's colloidal silver - got mixed up non-colloidal dressings at work.

Seeker - much of the info about MC is personal experiences but surely it's better to try options rather than leaving a problem alone with the hope it will just go away.
