5mo DS teething and has awful cold / cough - end of tether, what worked for you?!

I have a horrid feeling the answer is sit it out but jsut in case...

DS has a cold, horrid cough and this is combined with teething discomfort. He won't settle, won't sleep, and will only stop crying / complaining if he has some milk (which obviously he doesn't want 24 hrs a day!) I have given him some teething powders for the teething which work normally to calm him but he's so fed up that they're only touching the surface. I have karvol to ease the blocked nose but this just makes it run and run, good in some ways but not in others.
Any other suggestions? Not keen to use calpol or similar as he doesn't have a temp and doesn't seem to be in pain, as such, just discomfort.

I have had the same problem with both of mine- with sore bottoms thrown in!

I use the nasal spray to try and ease the snot. I also use calpol if they seem especially upset. I understand why you dont though.

No other suggestions except we have the cot raised at one end to try a stop the snot .

You could try baby Vicks to help with their breathing but yes you are right just sit it out and make sure they are having plenty of fluids

I've done similar with the albas oil (if thats what its called, oil to clear the nose anyway, I have it in some hot water by the bed.)
I gave him, for the first time, some cooled boiled water to drink too.
DH is with him now, he won't sleep other than in someone's arms - could be a loooong night!

personally I would give calpol and possibly ibuprofen, we had to do this nearly for a year on a 2 week on 1 week off cycle, as ds really struggled teething. Whereas his younger brother we hardly noticed him teething.
