DD, 2, has very swollen "front bottom". Hernia/ Ganglion? Anyone?

Hello, just after some advice. DD, 2, has front bottom so swollen that when standing, her cleft present massively to the right. I've just come back from the doctor, who can't be sure it's a hernia until DD has had an ultrasound. In the weeks before the hospital can see her, I'm just seeking reassurance or advice from anyone who has experienced similar. Apparently, inguinal hernias are rare in girls, but not unheard of. She doesn't seem to be in pain or even discomfort, but the doctor did warn me to be vigilant, as if it becomes strangulated it is dangerous. If anyone has any tips on how to distinguish between a hernia and a ganglion, I'd be grateful, or if anyone has experience of the operation DD will apparently need if it is a hernia, I'd be grateful, too, as I'm super-worried but trying not to be. Thanks very much.

Watching as my one year old daughter has a suspected hernia in the same place. Hers only appears when ahe cries or strains.

The paeds said it would be a small op with general anaesthetic.
