Hi - My dd2 is 2 & for the last week has been complaining of an itchy bottom, it is quite red just round the anus rather than nappy rash kind of thing. Saw hv on fri & she suggested upping fluid intake to weaken urine & gave us some Metanium. Dd is usually ok in the day time is straining when she does apoo which is unusual for her. At night is when she gets distressed, she's an awful sleeper anyway but for the last week during the night she gets very windy & after passing wind will complain if a sore bottom. She's been screaming with it & bouncing on the bed on her bottom in tears. I thought worms but have throughly inspected her bottom & her nappies & there isn't anything that I can see. Saw the hv today who suggested reducing her fruit intake & stopping the metanium & I have to ring her tomorrow to see if things have changed drmatically overnight. Any ideas?

Does she go to playgroup or similar? My money would still be on worms TBH.

Sounds like worms to me as well.

I thought worms but the hv said they would be obvious in her nappies & on her bottom. I did have a thorough look but couldn't see anything. I'm tempted to get some ovex to try, would you or leave it & speak to hv again?

They aren't necessarily obvious. They look like tiny little threads, but they move around, iyswim.

No I didn't see anything like that, will have a really good look later. Makes me feel sick thinking about it!!

Well last night was uneventful with dd2, no itching at all, I had a through look & saw nothing either. Dd1 though (7) started complaining of a sore bottom & this morning was walking most strangely it was so sore. She does suffer chaffing sometimes but in the light of dd2 went to the doctors. Was advised to treat even though no actual evidence. Sort of relieved someone has made my mind up really but now face the manic bed stripping & cleaning.
