white patches on adult teeth

Dd's front adult teeth have white patches on them, close to the tips. They have been there since the teeth came through. She has regular check ups and the dentist has never said anything. I also have these patches on my front teeth and so does my aunt, although dd's are much more pronounced.

Does anyone have any idea what they are?

Ds has these. It is enamel hypoplasia which was caused by ds having continual antibiotics from birth to when he was 4.5. I would ask the dentist as there are different causes apparently. Ds had the most perfect milk teeth so it is a bit sad to look at how awful his teeth are now, although it is a small price to pay for what he went through (v poorly prem).

fluorosis? My DH has this, he lived in an area with fluorinated water and he swallowed while brushing his teeth. That was enough to cause small white flecks.

Thanks for the information. Looking at google images it looks like enamel hypoplasia, although not as severe as some of the pictures! I had a look at her teeth today, and the white patch covers most of one the teeth. I can't think what the cause could be, although she did have a severe trauma to her mouth when she was 2, leading to one tooth being knocked out and the other going grey. I will speak to the dentist at the next check up.
