My daughter has been staying with her grandparents in London for the last 3 week.I came down to day to spend some time with her.As it was a nice day,I suggested we go for a walk,as I brushed her hair,I noticed some much hair on the brush,on her clothes..My parents are elderly and didn't notice.I'am really worried and feel panicky.I have so many problems in my life, really scared.please can someone help me.She's also found hair in shower ,an hour ago and is very upset.

There are plenty of things that can cause hairloss. Don't panic just yet, stressing around her won't help the situation. Is she on some kind of medication that has this as a side effect?, is she stressed about anything?.

She could have a fungal infection on her scalp. Check and see if it's scaly, if she has patches which are smooth and round or maybe with some fine white hair she could have Alopecia Areata. My daughter has this, but she has had it since birth. She has lost her hair completely 3 times, she is 5. It can happen at any age. My daughter is perfectly happy, otherwise healthy, settled and well adjusted, and it is surprisingly common.

But don't panic just yet, get yourself to the doctor and ask to be referred directly a dermatologist. He/She will take samples of the hair and get it tested. They may also recommend a blood test to see if she is deficient in some vitamins or if there is some other underlying cause.

Hi, just wondering if there was any answer on this, my 10 year old daughter is shedding a lot of hair, GP has done bloods which all came back good so they think it could be stress related- which I don’t think it is..I am at a loss as to what is causing this as there are no patches but 150-200 hairs a day are coming out. Thanks
