Insect sting starts swelling 9 days later, anyone heard of this?

DS is 6. He got stung by what he thinks was a bee in S France last week. We didn't see the insect, there was a drop of blood on his finger, no visible sting to remove.

Although it hurt a lot he didn't react (physically) much at all, but now 9 days later his finger has been swelling throughout the day and is too painful to straighten properly. It is white around the site of the sting, red beyond that, and the swelling has started to spread beyond his knuckles. There are tiny bumps like blisters directly on the site of the sting.

He is quite well in himself, and the swelling isn't particularly rapid, I'd say throughout today really.

Sounds like it might be infected if it's going weird after a week. You should probably take him to out of hours doc tomorrow to get some anti biotics.

I am a reactor to bites - I have a scar on my leg from a bite 5 years ago in france and right now I am suffering from huge swellings on both wrists (starting to turn black ) and two on my right leg. All from the uk.

They say that vit B is the way to avoid it. Vit B can be found in marmite, bananas or anti insect patches.

Hope you have taken him to OOH. I would not wait till tomorrow. Hope he gets better soon.

I would probably treat with paracetomol for the pain for today & get him an urgent appt with regular GP first thing tomorrow. Agree it sounds infected. Before Calpol take his temperature, If is at all feverish straight to OOH or even A&E, he's too little to mess about.

DS stood on an ants nest 3 weeks ago. He STILL has scabs on his legs from the bites. 3 weeks!
