He doesn't have a lot or big symptoms: persistent nightmares and a mild, intermittent patch of eczema on his butt, but there is a strong family history, enough to make me want to rule it out.

the options here - we are NOT in UK - are:

  1. we saw a dr with a special interest in diet; she advised a 'modified elimination diet', then handed me 16 pages on the paleolithic diet which totally fired up my sceptitocin. but maybe worth a try anyway? for the diet, if not the 'sciencey' rationale?

  2. buy RPAH book and attempt to follow gold-standard elimination diet myself - though afaik it doesn't test for wheat or dairy allergy

  3. see our gp, stamp foot, and demand referral to expensive, long-wait list but v famous, v excellent allergy specialist

  4. go to non-referral, non wait-list but expensive clinic established by famous allergy specialist, though they primarily do skin-prick tests which afaict are notoriously unreliable

can't figure it out myself, not getting much help from local gps who can apparently tell, just from looking, that ds isn't allergic to anything Hmm

Do your own unscientific elimination diet. How old is he? You can find calcium requirements for sea on google, maybe see Gp and tell them you are going to do this?

Dd is dairy free since age 4. It's hard to get calcium levels in.. And now soya too as its make up is similar to milk.
She has recently been through specialist at Kings, London.
Apart from blood tests to check for gluten allergy and her iron etc levels, the only thing they do is elimination.

Start with dairy.
6 weeks
Keep food diary an symptom diary.

Then do dairy and soya. Soya is a bugger and is in everything bread wise!

Go for the referral but do this in the meantime so they know you are serious.
Can you get oat milk where you live for when you eliminate soya?
