night time fever in baby - WWYD?

My 6mo DS had a 38.5 temperature last night - I didn't know if I should try and get him back to sleep straight after Calpoling him despite the fact he'd managed to spit a lot of it out or wait until the fever came down...no other symptoms and he seemed very cheery (and wanting to play).

He's alright this morning, thank goodness (took over an hour for a dose of Nurofen to work five hours later). I just realise I'm completely clueless about what to do when he's not well...

Sounds like you did perfectly well!

If he is hot and ill remove (his) clothes and dose with paracetamol and/or ibupropffen. If he seems ok then pop straight back to bed, if he's sweaty/temp high (more than 38.) or not coming down then sponge with tepid water or even let him play in a cool bath and air dry. keep the rooms darkish and calm.

Check he is ok after 40 mins to 1 hour and that he is not hotter or iller.

Trust your instincts.

Thanks, Fool, that is useful advice and reassurance!
