How soon after grommets did you see an improvement?

DS 18mo had grommets yesterday. Very long road to get here, so many hideous infections, ruptures etc and no talking at all due to severe hearing loss, both sides.

Anyway, I know this is probably my fault but I really expected (after listening to anecdotes) that it would be some amazing cure the minute he woke up. That is not the case... he does seem a little more alert but that's it.

Just wanted someone to slap me tell me not to worry, get a grip, and that these things take longer than 24 hrs to improve you silly cow

Hi my ds 22 mths had them fitted on the 6th June. I think there has been a small improvement but nothing shocking at the moment. He is due to return to audiology on the 6th aug for another hearing test so we will know more then. But I know what you mean we were expecting him to have his hands over his ears on the way home from hospital but it didn't happen that way. Grin

Thank you for your reply. Good luck with audiology. We don't have follow up for 4 months.
Has your DCs speech picked up or was it grommets solely for recurrent infection?

I found ti much hards to notice the change when ds had them in at 20 months than when he had the second set at 3yo.
It was really at the end of the month I realised how much more he was speaking and that was the difference it made.
At 3yo he was commenting on sounds from the second day.

His was for speech as he had no words at the time of the insertion. He has had plenty of infections (4 this year) but no ruptures or discharge. All the hanging around waiting for appointments makes it worse Wink
