little moveable lump on cheek near jawline?

Hi, ds, 6 told me about this lump he said he had for many years...it now seems to bother him as he mentioned about it...it is small but noticeable, near the jawline...tender when touched...Gp said that it was unusual as it does not seem to be where lymph nodes are....so worried now, he has referred me to specialist for neck and head tumors....any help???please advise

could well be a blocked salivary gland or even a problem with a tooth.....given that he's had it a long time it's almost certainly nothing to worry about :)

I've had two lumps, about pea-sized, above the jawline, inside the cheek tissue- doc said they were just cysts. I've had them for at least 12 years.

It's likely something like that.

thanks paddyclamp, hoping u r right, but i never noticed it until he told me last night! I feel like a bad mum....

If its been there years is probably not serious. I know what you mean about panic stations though!

i have no idea how long it's been there really... ds keeps chaning his version...i hope the antibiotic clears it....

I've had one of these for about 10 years, it has never grown or changed shape - GP said probably a small cyst, agree with others probably nothing to worry about

thanks all, just that i am worried about things like hodgkins lymphomas etc...

Always best to get stuff like this checked out.

My DD had very similar lump 3 years ago. GP was puzzled as it didn't seem to be a lymph node. We were rather worryingly sent to the hospital for blood tests. DD was convinced she had had the lump for years - although she had not mentioned it.

Anyway all tests came back negative and we were actually referred to the dentist who finally told us, after what was a worrying few weeks, that it was in fact just a swollen lymph node without any underlying sinister cause.

I think rightly, docs are always very careful with any types of lumps and bumps, especially in children. It is still very unlikely to be anything serious.

thank u all for ur reassurance...emphatic, seems so similar! I really hope it is the same story...so do blood tests find anything out? I will be going to an otolaryngologist(??) to see if anything serious...maybe should see the dentist too?

I noticed I had one of these in each check when I was ten. They've been there ever since (twenty years now!) and have never really bothered me at all.

Hi lila sorry not been back - in response to your question regarding blood tests - as far as I'm aware they were full blood count, electrolytes, liver function etc - just a general 'is there anything obvious going on in your body?' tests.

We actually were refered to the dental hospital and saw a consultant when our usual dentist wasn't sure, he had the final say on what the lump actually was.

DS had a few lumps in his neck (pea sized) that the doc said were swollen lymph nodes...he did send us to the paediatrician who did blood tests just to dot all the i's etc...turned out to be nothing!

I remember something else he said....if he was well in himself there was a very good chance it was nothing as kids who have leaukaemia or lymphoma(which is what i was worried about) usually get very poorly very quickly!
