Sudden rib pain in 12yr old.

I found DD, who is 12, sobbing uncontrollably about 90mins ago.She is complaining of sudden rib pain on the left hand side. She's taken some pain relief, but it's not touching it. She's in bed, but still crying. I'm wondering if she's pulled a muscle? Not sure how though Any ideas what it could be please?

I had this when I was about that age. GP told me it was the cartilage in my ribs buckling as I was having a growth spurt but that it would pass. It did before too long.

Thank you both for your replies.She eventually fell asleep last night & she's just woken and say they still hurt.I'll see what she's like when she's up.
The grow spurt thing is probably right, which I hadn't thought of, so thanks again.
