High temp after 2 days of antibiotics

DS 7yrs has yet another ear infection and sore throat. He had tonsilitis 4 months ago so hoping it's not that again. He's on his 2nd day of antibiotics, calpol and ibruprofen but is no better. His temp is 39.1. It was 39.6 then dropped to 38.4 but is back up again. Normally he's been on the mend after a day of antibiotics. I'm thinking I'll take him back to the docs in the morning. Do you think I should wait or go tonight?

But fever is a normal part of healing and shows the body is fighting the infection, are you alternating the fever meds?

Take him back tomorrow, I can't think of what they could do tonight that you can't do at home.

Is he big for his age? Might he need a larger dose of anti pyretic? (Would have to be on GPs advice)

thanks for your replies. his temp has finally dropped on day 4. hes not very big about average. hes now full of cold and snotty but no longer red and hot.

I*t's back up to 38.7 again. I'm going to have to go back to docs again tomorrow but what can they do? He's on antibiotics, calpol, ibuprofe and drinking loads. He's also spent all day in his pants to cool down.

They might need to give him different antibiotics.

Also, temps do rise at this time of day so he may still be on the mend.

Thanks, he does seem worse in an evening but at least the earache pain has gone.
