hello, 4yr old ds had his op on thursday am and i think we have been instructed to stop calpol after 72 hours and nurofen after only 48 hours. i am v confused because they have also told us that the worst pain happens about 4 days after op-so why stop pain relief before then? don't know whether to do another night of setting the alarm for meds in night. he still says his throat hurts.

I would use common sense and give whatever pain relief is needed. The 3 day advice on the bottles are for general illnesses and not applicable in your DS case. Presumably the hospital feel the pain may be gone by day 3 but if it's not continue with the pain relief.

My ds had this op in November...from what I can remember, we used Calpol and Ibuprofen for at least a couple of weeks afterwards...although I wouldn't set the alarm to wake him up...wait until he wakes. You should have been given a telephone number for the ward he was on...I would give them a call and check.
