Ds having grommets and adanoids out day before holiday, should I cancel it??

After a long wait ds1, who is 6, is finally having grommets. He is also having his adenoids removed as they think it will help, plus he sufferes from sleep apnea.

He is due to have his operation the day before we go on holiday. I am a single parent and have saved for me and ds1 & ds2 to go away. It's in this country, just under 2 hrs from our house and has a large hospital but should I cancel?

I have no idea how long it will take him to recover and if we should be at home. Anyone here that can offer some advice?

My ds was fine by the next day. I wouldt cancel. You are within reach of care in the highly unlikely event of problems

Don't cancel but get everything ready for your hol the day before so you can sit calmly at the hospital. My ds had both and tonsills out and although subdued in recovery was eating and himself by evening. We flew locally a few days later. Just make sure you take painkillers and any meeds regularly to keep comfortable and pain free. Enjoy your holiday"

If he's fit to go home and you're staying in the UK I would think it ok. If it's a car journey he could sleep on the way anyway? Just get the OOH local number when you get there just in case, maybe?

My DS1 had this done at around the same age and was absolutely fine the next day, better than he had been for months after suffering so many ear infections. If you are not flying I think he should be fine.

Thanks for your replies, good idea to pack all the holiday stuff before.

He's having it done in Bristol and we're on holiday only 5 miles from Swansea hospital which does make me feel better. Now I just have to get over my nerves!

Pack your discharge papers too - if you have all the details to hand everything will be fine Smile
