What problems is he having?

He keeps getting infections where his skin is growing around his hole and his hole is very small, basically when he wee's it doesn't all come out which causes the infections! He has had 2 lots of the steriod cream and it hasn't helped so he has to be circumstised :(

My DS was circumcised at birth. The most common method for infants and I'm fairly sure they'll use on your son is the Plastibell which is a plastic ring ligature. Prior to the operation, they'll use a local anaesthetic, most likely an injection. The procedure is quite quick, usually about 15-20 mins start to finish. I'm sure the staff will have lots of methods of distracting your son away from what is going on.

The Plastibell ring will stay on your DS for 7-14 days after the procedure, it gradually falls off by itself as the wound heals. The main two things are to allow the ring to stay in place, don't attempt to remove it and try to stop your DS from playing with it. The other thing is frequent antiseptic baths, twice a day usually with something like dettol and salt.

Don't worry, it's a really common procedure in many countries and various cultures, I know it's more of a challenge with a 3 yr old as they're aware of everything... but it must also be difficult to see him suffer with multiple infections which circumcision will alleviate hopefully. Good luck!
