Very dark, weeping ear wax in 2.9 yr old- doctor?

DS has really dark brown ear wax, huge clumps of it in one ear. He has complained his ear hurts, but he doesn't have a temperature. I cleaned his outer ear this morning, but it has got worse. It sort of weeped all over his bed sheets last night.

Do I need to take him to doctors?

Yes.

personally i wouldn't bother.

stuff coming out is good. if it's weeped over his bed that probably means it was an infection and it has burst and all come out.

GP is highly unlikely to do anything now it has burst, they generally don't treat ear infections anyway.

you can give him calpol/ibuprofen though for the pain, but hopefully that will have eased if it has mostly come out now.

I took DD to the doctor with this at a similar age. He recommended olive oil drops in her ears to avoid build-up of wax. worked a treat. DD didn't enjoy it much though.

Might be worth going to the GP just to be on the safe side though.

what thisisyesterday said, they dont like to give antibiotics for ear infections now, esp when as your ds's sounds like it has already burst and is clearing itself, as you say he hasnt got a temp etc, keep an eye and calpol if needed, but hopefully he is over the worst :)

Thanks. I didn't take him today as I thought, no temp, generally seemed all right in himself. Then when it was all there glooped up again I felt guilty!
