Sore throat and red puffy face - what on earth is it?

DS1 is 4.5 years. He's had a sore throat since Friday evening, and woke up yesterday morning with his face puffed up and covered in red blotches. He has pinprick rash over his upper body, a slight cough and was sick last night. No temperature. He's a bit tired but otherwise seems OK in himself.

Any idea what he's got and whether I need to get him to a doctor?

Thanks.

scarlet fever maybe? Could need AB's, so best to get checked out

New symptom - he's just announced that his willy hurts.

If it is scarlet fever, can it wait until tomorrow to see the doctor?

Dd gets a rash when she has a virus so could just be a viral rash. Might be worth googling to see which it looks like?

Is he drinking enough? Could it be biting when he weed?

Have you got a walk in centre near you? Or at least a pharmacist?

VivaLeBeaver · 07/05/2012 13:15

slapped cheek?

I would get him checked just to put your mind at rest .....

Had a look at pictures on t'internet and I think it is scarlet fever. The willy is a red (ha!) herring - he'd been poking it Hmm...

Slapped cheek doing the rounds at DS's school.

Loving the self-inflicted red willy!

When DS had chicken pox he had a few spots on his willy area and decided he quite liked having cream put on there! Cue him asking for cream every hour or so till I twigged! Grin

Grin Like his style!

I'm pretty sure it's not slapped cheek. DS2 had that last year and it's not the same.

Was a bit worried for DS3, who woke from his nap with flaming cheeks - but have just seen that 3 teeth have come through today, which doubles the number he's got Shock...
