nine year old with recurring tonsilitis - driving us all mad

My ds has had four lots of tonsilitis in as many months - lots of antibiotics, lots of time off school, I have had lots of time off work and it is getting impossible all round. He is worn out as are we, and I am finding work increasingly unsympathetic and not suprisingly.. (new job too so doubly embarrassing). My dh takes time off too so we are all struggling.

I take it the op is next - should I wait for August, summer hols, or just get it done asap. Advice (and a bit of sympathy!) please. I feel at this rate he has two more bouts til August...

I would go ASAP, how old is he? It's awful, I had mine out at age 41! Best thing ever

he is 9 - we have holiday booked for summer half term (and builders in) so August would suit - however I can't put him through two more bouts, which is most likely what it will be.. ughhh

I'm sure you'll say that this has already been done, but I mention it just in case - has the GP prescribed 10 days of Penicillin, not just 5 (as many I'm afraid are prone to do)? 10 days is what is recommended for strep.
If that has been done, did GP then try Erythromycin?

I agree with Kat, antibiotics might have been insufficient and/or wrong type.

Another thought - has GP done a throat swab? If not, that should be done - then you'll find out what bacteria is causing the tonsillitis and what antibiotics it is sensitive to.
