I can buy it in our local chemist but they do ask how old the child is that it is intended for.

It's not been withdrawn, but is out of stock nearly everywhere because of some manufacturing issue. Try just plain Calpol or other paediatric paracetamol instead.

perceptionreality · 23/04/2012 23:17

Calpol does not work for my dd when she has a bad cold and blocked nose.

There's a calpol version called Calcold I think which is the same as medised.

Both 6+

Ah, thanks iwant. I have just found an old thread on here which says Medised was indeed discontinued...

The chemist today told me it has been discontinued as they are not allowed to put the two ingredients, paracetemol and decongestant together. I am gutted. Its been the only thing to get us through colds and help my children sleep, (us too!)

EdithWeston · 08/05/2012 20:52

It's not been discontinued. The manufacturer has been bought out by another, and they are renewing the licences for a number of products (including Remgel and Paramol).

The new manufacturer has said they will get it back in production and onto shelves asap, but there are some localised shortages whilst all this is going on.

Calcold is the same as medised

I searched for it in 8 different pharmacies near me and was told that it has been discontinued but no one was sure exactly why. Some said it was a change of manufacturer and a licencing issue and others said it had been withdrawn because it was being abused, ie, parents were giving it to under 6's to help them sleep and the long term effects can be dangerous. Whatever the reason I was gutted as it's the only thing that relieves my kids when they have a bad cold. I think Calcold has the same ingredients so I might give that a try as and when necessary (but then that begs the question why they haven't withdrawn Calcold aswell if the ingredients are the same as Medised?) Anyway, a friend of mine managed to order a couple of bottles of Medised from an online pharmacy who had several bottles left in stock.
