Impetigo - questions & a bit of a moan!

Ds is 3 and he's come out in lots of spots which seem to fit the description of impetigo and it's going round his nursery so I expect that's what it is. Saw ooh doctor yesterday who said he wasn't sure but has prescribed oral ABs and antibiotic cream which ds has been on since yesterday morning.

I've been diligently applying the cream but the spots don't seem to be getting any better and more and more are coming out. His scalp is also covered now.

I'm 38wks with dc2, suffering with SPD, knackered from being up half the night with ds and now facing the prospect of being stuck in with a sick child all day. Also sure I'll catch it and I have eczema and my skin is sore enough anyway.

Right enough of a moan - for those with experience of this delightful infection how long does it take to clear up? Should I be putting the cream on his scalp as well? Will his hair fall out? How likely is it that I'll catch it? If I do catch it is dc2 likely to get it from me?

Thank you!

The oral ABs will be more effective than the cream, so should start to improve after a few days on them.

DS had it & it can be very difficult to get rid of, he needed 2 courses of oral ABs.

Be really thorough with hand washing etc, and if you have any cuts or spots put antibacterial cream on.
