What do you make of this? Chapped lips and more

DS (10) is full of cold and is coughing and complaining of earrache. Nothing unusual, he's having the Calpol etc.

Hos upper lip is really chapped, it has lines in it that look quite red and angry. He showed me inside his mouth just. he turned his top lip inside out and there is a split on the inside. No blood or anything.

He had a bit of dental work last week which may or may not be connected. Don't know what to think. GP?

Trip to the pharmacy for the cracked lip first I think, ask to see th duty chemist, see how the earache goes and that will definately be a GP visit if worsens/does not improve.

Thanks reliable, i wondered about the chemist. Smile I will persuade him to go into town in a bit.

I have a cold. My top lip is also chapped and angry, just from the amount of nose blowing and sneezing - is it worse than that?
The split inside is a little more concerning - I presume he doesn't remember doing anything to cause it?

Make sure he's drinking enough fluids - coughs and colds are really dehydrating, which contributes to the chapping. I would also really recommend getting tissues with aloe vera - I thought they were a con but they make the chapping and redness far less bad than if I used normal tissues.

How are the corners of his mouth? He may be a little low in certain vitamins and minerals - low iron can cause splitting at the corners of the mouth (angular stomatitis) and low vitamin C can make the skin more fragile. Maybe get him a multivit/mineral to give him a boost as he's been unwell?
