Dd was off school last thursday and Friday as she had a sore ear Abd the emergency doctor advised that I keep her off as it was red and inflamed due to a viral thing!

She was also off the thurs and Friday before as on the Wednesday night she had a temperature and a cough.

It doesn't look good that dd is having so much time off, but I think maybe if I had of kept her off at the start of the week then maybe she wouldn't have had a problem with her ear.

When she woke up this morning she said she couldn't hear properly and has been shouting a lot today when talking. I think her ear is blocked!

So I'm thinking I should keep her off tomorrow, the thing is she doesnt seem ill in herself but when she was at school on Wednesday she came out tired and whiny so I dont want to keep sending her in thinking she is ok then she is off school thurs and friday again!

Also when I called the school this week to say she was off they told me to get a letter off the doc as it looks like she is having a day off here and there! They made me feel like I just want to keep her off but I really don't, if I have to take the day off to look after her I don't get paid!

I wouldnt keep her off if she didnt have a temp and wasnt ill in herself.

If she doesnt have a temperature and is acting as if she is well then I would send her to school. If she deteriorates then they can always send he home again.

Oh really? I think I am just worried that she will be I'll again and then be off Thursday and Friday again this week and the school will wonder what the hell is going on!! Sad

My dd (6) had been complaining for a few days of a really blocked ear, I sent her to school as she has been off so much lately. She came home ok in herself but complaining of stabbing pains in her ear I managed to get her seen by the nurse practicioner who diagnosed an ear infection. How old is you dd? I think they can go downhill very quickly & in your shoes would be having the same dilemma. Your school sound very on the ball (or not) regarding abscences. My dd's record must look awful at the moment as she has had 3 bouts tonsillitis & one ear infection since Jan. At one point they thought it was glandular fever but don;t want to do bloods. School are only now after all this time saying that they need something off a doctor if she has continued time off. She's been averaging 3 days a week since the beginning of term through genuine illness.

Ah your poor dd, that's terrible Sad

The only reason they wanted the letter was for their off stead reports!

I didn't send dd in as was going to take her to the doctors! After spending 30 mjns trying to get through to them at 8am this morning I got an appointment for her, I then took her in for the appointment to find out that the doctor had called in sick, so dd has still not seen the doctor and I don't know if I should start her on the antibiotic or not as I hate giving medicine if I can avoid it Sad plus I'm loosing more money by not being at work...

I'd always send mine to school (or preschool) unless they were ill enough to be in bed all day. It's how my mum was when I was little and I feel the same. (Mind you it's partly because I want to take her on holiday in term time so really want to have her attendance to be good all the rest of the time...)

Before xmas dd had a bad cold, I'd continued sending her in as didn't seem really poorly but was told at hometime one day to keep her off if she wasn't any better the next day.
notsurewhy - have you managed to get to the doctors yet or did you end up sending her to school?

i finally got to take her to the doctors on tuesday as had been trying for days to get an appointment. and she has got an ear infection. but they said it is not contagious so i sent her in on wednesday with her antibiotics, and she has been fine Smile
