Glasses -thick lenses and high magnification of eyes

My ds aged 5yrs has a high prescription +7.5 and +9.5

His first temporary glasses are thick and magnify his eyes. This new prescription following a hospital appointment will be even thicker and magnify his eyes even more. I have heard about having lenses thinned, but have just been informed by an optician that this can only be done for prescriptions up to +8.

Can anyone help with this? If we go to another optician what should I ask for and what might the options be to help with weight and eye magnification?
Many thanks.

you could call a few opticians, perhaps different ones have different suppliers?

I'm not sure about the thickness reduction but for the eye magnification I'm afraid they won't be able to do anything as it's the physics of how the lenses on the glasses work that mean the eye will be magnified. I feel for your DS, I had a very high prescription for short-sightedness as a kid which meant my eyes looked like two pinholes! The only thing that eliminates that problem is laser eye surgery and contact lenses, obviously he's way too young (and his prescription too unstable) for laser eye surgery and I think most opticians won't give contacts until you're older but that'd be your best bet.

My daughter, also 5, has a prescription of +11.5. She has compressed lenses. But you need to make sure you go to a good optician. I ordered a spare pair a few weeks ago (identical frames) and they came back double the thickness- and the optician admitted the lab hand't done a good job and sent them back. Her glasses do not look that bad considering the prescription. So make sure you get a good optician who uses a good lab.

My ds also has very strong prescription 9.5. They are also very thick making his eyes look very large. He also has a condition where he can not tolerate any wind or moving air on his eyes the lenses have been mounted in special goggles which are tightly fastened at the back of his head to make is eyes in the goggles completely airtight.
