Washing ds's hair after having grommets fitted - how and when??

DS had grommets fitted 4 weeks ago. Haven't washed his hair since - afraid to get water in his ears... When can I wash his hair/go swimming, and how can I do it safely?? He has a neoprene headband thing for swimming but it won't work for hair washing. Sorry if this is a dense question!

Ta! :)

we use ear putty on there own for hair washing (we don't let ds's lie down just pour water over their heads) and with the head band for swimming. We use them for about 6 months for hair washing and until they fell out for swimming (consultant said more bugs in swimming water so we should use them until it had been confirmed that they had fallen out which is 9-15months after fitting)

We're probably being excessive but can't bear anymore ear pain or infections!

For hair washing we put cotton wool in his ears. Has never been a problem, it's what the consultant suggested.

After his first set of grommets at 20 months he came through when I was washing my hair and said "mummy, you gorgotton (forgotten) putting clouds in your ears." Grin

If you use cotton wool it has to be coated in Vaseline.

If you phone your local hospital and ask to speak to hearing aid dept, they will be able to mould you a pair of earplugs to your ds's ears, they will last a year before he grows out of them and they cost £20ish...

Brilliant, totally water tight, am amazed you can just use head band for swimming without ear plugs too.
