Hi all, we finally have a referral appointment on Friday, so I want to make the most of it. Forewarned is forearmed. Could anyone tell me what to expect, and what questions to ask?
DS2 is 5 months old. When he was about 3 months old he had widespread cradle cap and patches of dry skin on face and torso. Tried using double base on HV recommendation, but he had a bad reaction which resulted in skin peeling off and oozing pus and blood. It's gone downhill since then.
He now has raw eczema all over his face, with other patches on his scalp, torso and limbs. He also has more typical eczema at wrists, elbows and behind his knees. Our GP thinks he also has urticaria. We are using epiderm, balnieum in the bath, hydrocortisone 0.5% on everywhere but his face, and Fucidin on any weeping skin. We were using aveeno but last week he started reacting to it, going red and crying when we applied it. He is also on amoxicillin and flucloxacillin this week, following swab results. Not too much of that is going in though! We also give him piraton when he's very itchy (we have him in scratch sleeves most of the time). We see the GP every week and he's very nice, but freely admits DS2 is steadily getting worse. Hence the referral.
We have no idea what is causing this. I'm exclusively BF and I cut out dairy and eggs 4 weeks ago. Hasn't made any difference (yet??). DS2 used to have green and mucus filled nappies, but not any more, so maybe he was slightly intolerant to dairy? DS2 seemed to get a very bad flare up after I ate a lot of fish one night, and his lips seemed to get swollen. So I haven't eaten fish for 3 weeks. Thought I might as well stop eating nuts too as a bad flare up followed me eating brazil nuts for the first time in years.
I'd like to ask about allergy testing but the GP said there was no point yet. Is this something the dermatologist would know about?
Thanks in advance.
