My son has been back and forward to GP and hospital for nearly three years years but to no avail with this problem. He has been given Movicol to take daily but we have no idea why he retains weight and is so often constipated. Have tried cutting out various food types I.e. dairy but nothing helps. Would greatly appreciate anyone who can offer some help. Doctors seem to just say it's the way he is and we just have to deal with it. He is picked on at school for his size and as he gets older this is really affecting his confidence. Seems to have stated at around age 7. Many thanks.

when you have tried cutting out foods how long have you done it for? dairy for example can take up to 2 weeks to clear from your system, so you'd ideally want to cut ALL dairy out for around a month to see if it's making a difference

also, how active is active? does he do sports outside of school?

also, eating healthily is great, but it's worth keeping an eye on portion sizes. it's easy to over-do it

How much does he drink?

Have you tried limiting wheat to no more than at 1 meal a day? It's easy to overload on wheat than dairy, although both can cause constipation.

Cut out bread and dairy separately for about one month our just over. Drinks plenty of juice, mainly diluting as don't like kids having fizzy. 3 or 4 glasses a day.
