Can any mum's out there relate to this? My son is 23 months old, always a very fussy eater but for 4 days he has not eaten a bean and only drank small amounts of milk or juice. He has astma and has now got a wheezy, chesty cough, the doctor has prescribed antibiotics, had the same situation before christmas when he was of his food for about 6 weeks. Dread the thought of this happening again as it was so worrying. Can anyone provide suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi,

He should pick up within a couple of days of taking the AB's. It is totally normal for kids not to eat a thing when they are sick (at least my two dont). BUT they should be drinking. Give him whatever drink he wants, even if normally you don't allow. Also, leave small bowls of snacks around his toys/on the living room floor for him to pick at when he is distracted.

6 weeks is quite a long time not to eat. If this were me I would be chatting to HV/GP. But a few days/ week no big deal.

Good Luck x

we're in the same situation. ds2, 17 months, hasn't eaten a thing except milk since Sunday lunchtime, till just now he's started gnawing on an apple core. he's had a(nother) terrible cough for the last many weeks. was just about to post asking how long do you let your child go without eating till you see a gp. 6 weeks sounds scary :( sorry not to have any helpful suggestions, but will be watching thread.

when he was off his food for six weeks i went to the doctor numerous times and his health visitor even did a home visit cos i was that stressed and he was refered to a dietician. However no answers other than give him high fat foods! problem is he wont let anything pass his mouth! worrying times just feel like some professionals don't listen!
