How long before I should ring OOH (if at all)?

DS is constipated. He is screamimg in pain because he's holding it in. Started in earnest yesterday afternoon so by the time I realised it was too late to call gp/hv. But only then realised I couldn't remember the last poo. Might have been 3/4 days. He normally goes every day or twice in a day if he has one poo free day. He's 2.3 and has good vocab and understanding but he obviously doesn't understand the concept of "no pain - no gain"

He's passing liquid which soaks straight into his nappy, but what's left is like sand! Really gritty. DH and I have been trying to pull it out when we can but it's really difficult and we're scared of hurting him more.

He had a bout last week but he was ok in himself. This time he's lethargic, shivery and hot while he's straining/holding. Hasn't eaten much today and can't force him to drink much. I have got some orange juice in and a wee bottle of flavoured water (won't drink it straight).

If not doctor worthy, what else can I do. I'm almost as distraught as he is.

Brilliant news about the pooing, sorry to hear about your little girl. Hope she gets well soon.

Keep going with the movicol, it will help keep him going regularly, so he learns that it's not painful to poo. Hopefully they will both be sorted by the time you go back Smile

Pretty sure we're back to normal. Have a couple of poo nappies per day since Sat and in between we've had some very wet ones - he's drinking loads now Smile

Dh is even considering swimming this week. He's due back in nursery tomorrow for a full day and I'm sure he'll be fine. His bottom's still a little sore but not making him scream.

I will keep on here and update as and when. Thank you all so very much. Advice and hand holding were very much appreciated Thanks

If anyone's still around I thought I'd update.

DS has been back to normal up til yesterday. Today was day 3 with no poo. He's been on one movicol a day, which he has with breakfast, and it's been fine but he didn't poo on Tuesday while at home with me, not at nursery on Wednesday and again today. After nursery I gave him another sachet though he probably only took half. He's had 2 today as well as drinking probably a litre of watered down juice.

I am worrying that it's starting again. He's been grumpy at times, and told dh while in the bath that he wasn't feeling well. Took a while to settle tonight, though not beyond the scope of normal really.

Am I doing the right thing? I'll phone gp tomorrow to ask advice and get more movicol. I have still got some lactulose in the house and picosulphate, though I am reluctant to use that as I'm sure that caused a lot of pain.

Tell me he'll do a huge poo tomorrow. Please. I'm anxious.
