DS (4) had his pre school jabs last thursday and one side of his bottom is still very red, hard and swollen. It's also itchy. Should I be concerned?

I thought they were usually given in the arm.

Sounds like he's had a bit of a reaction. How big is the swelling? Have you given any piriton/brufen/calpol yet? Would ring GP tomorrow if not improving.

mine both had theirs in their arm too. They normally say to seek advice if the swelling is bigger than a 50p coin

Most of one side of his buttock and top of thigh is swollen. Slightly raised and quite red and firm to the touch. My doc said either arm or bottom.

Yes I have given half dose of calpol on Friday bedtime and full dose ibuprofen this morning (remembered that it is anti inflammatory).

I have now given him some liquid antihistamine.

Sounds really nasty- poor love.

If it is getting worse, I would ring GP/NHS DIRECT. Would give some more brufen and see how it is in the morning.

It is unusual to have it in the buttock and I am trying to imagine how it has now spread to his thigh. is more likely to be a reaction, but sometimes the site can get infected, so keep an eye and ring in as needed.

Thanks everyone - it had definitely calmed down by Monday morning and he's right as rain now.
