Could this be Chrons or Coeliac Disease?

DS1 is 4 in May and has a bout of sickness once or twice a month lasts or no longer than 12 hours. His appetite is very poor and has not gained any weight at all in over a year. His skin is very dry (he does drink plenty of fluids) and has to take laxatives sometimes as he gets constipated. My dad has Chrons and DH has Diverticulitis which has resulted in a stoma, reversal and a Hemicoloectomy where he's had most of his bowel removed. I don't know if this is related but his behaviour has changed and gets very frustrated very easy and is always complaining of being tired, feeling sick and has stomach aches. Going to see the Paed in March about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

faecal impaction can cause the symptoms you have described. I dont have personal knowledge of the skin problem but think it may be a symptom but all the others are. It also affects iron levels which will cause tiredness and can also make a child irritable. An impaction makes a child feel full all the time so they dont want to eat. The stomach pains cause bad behaviour and frustration in some, depression in others. It is commonly misdiagnosed as it cannot always be felt and may need xray to see.

An impaction may be a symptom of coeliac etc so please also ensure all tests for coeliac etc are done too as these symptoms fit these conditions too but do make sure they check properly for impaction too as it would need clearing even if it is coeliac.

Thanks Ivy.

Snowhasmelted. That would make sense, thank you. DH nearly died last year through faecal impaction cause by the Diverticulitis and he could describe his symptoms alot better than DS so even though he is going to the toilet there could be some left up there. I'd never thought of impaction in a child his age. Thank you for your reply Thanks. This is the house of bowel trouble!
