3 courses of antibiotics ?

My 9 month old boy is now on his 3rd course of different antibiotics for infected tonsils. He's also managed to get an ear infection along the way. The second lot were the strongest oral ones he could have and was only allowed to have them for 3 days once a day. He's had a raging temperature at times, hitting 40 on occasions. Has anyone else had a similar experience ? Is there anything else I should be making the doctors do ? It seems to have been going on for ever, I just want my happy little boy back :(

Did he get the three courses in a row? Does he still have fever now? Does he actually have tonsillitis? If so, I would insist on either seeing a different GP for a second opinion or have him seen by paediatrician (if GP does not want to refer, then through A&E or privately).

Yes it's been 3 courses of different antibiotics in a row. They just keep telling me they can see pus and inflamed tonsils. The temperature is under control with regular calpol and ibuprofen

My three year old dd has been plagued with inflamed tonsils (accompanied by raging temperatures) too and has been switching between Amoxicillin and Erythromizin as sometimes she doesn't seem to respond to one of them. In December, she got a one week course, was off them for a week, back on for another two weeks followed immediately by more (different ones)for another week. She just finished another two week course yesterday. Our GP has now referred us to an ENT specialist to see if her tonsilscould/ should be removed. Fingers crossed they will, as it is wearing her (and me, because of the lack of sleep) out and I'd hate for her to become resistent to the drugs!
I'd ask your GP about the possibility to have your ds's tonsils taken out.

Both my dd's 6 & 18 mths have had tonsillitis on & off since beginning of Jan. They have had two courses of antibiotics & dd1 is going to docs later as symptoms are back. Been told both times the tonsills are infected & pus on them. Dd1 has not been well for more than 2 days in a row for so many weeks now & not done a full week at school all term. It's horrid isn't it & you feel wretched when they are so poorly.
