Any one have any idea what this is?

My DS has been complaining for a few days that his winky and balls are hurting him. It does not look red or inflamed. There are a few tiny red dots around his groin but I don't think they are anything to do with it?

He says it hurts a little when he pee's but I haven't herd him say ouch or anything when he go's to the toilet.

Also he is toilet trained but he lately keeps having a few accidents.

He has no temp and he is not ill. He has slept a little more than usual but that's it.

Any ideas what this could be?

Urine infection?

HidingInTheBathroom · 19/02/2012 23:08

Would he not be poorly with a uti though?

UTI

Ballanitis - most likely

Glands up due to other illness

UTI sounds v likely and because of that imo you need to get him seen in the morning as left untreated they can affect the kidneys.

Ballanitis - isn't most likely imo - don't know why that says that!!

Dd recently had a uti, we didn't know until there was a bloody nappy :( no illness.

HidingInTheBathroom · 19/02/2012 23:13

Reading up uti is getting me worried about his kidneys. He will be ok until morning wornt he. As he is fast asleep at minute.

Yes,I would have thought so. Just call docs when they open.

If it is a UTI they may well give antibiotics and send him for a kidney scan. Ds had a uti when little and he had this, all was fine so try not to panic.

If you see GP tomorrow explain he's been complaining for a few days and ask if they can send a sample off (give him a drink before you go so he can pee in bottle there?) And ask if they'll dip test it to see straight away if raised white blood cells.

Don't be overly worried though and I don't say this lightly as a/im a worrier and b/my dad has kidney failure (not uti related!!)

HidingInTheBathroom · 19/02/2012 23:24

My husband DS farther has kidney problems. He is only young and his doc says he is the youngest patient he has had with his kidney problems.

Is kidney problems hereditary?

(see stupid me the worrierBlush)

Maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to see a doc now-have you A&E near by? Or call OOH?

HidingInTheBathroom · 20/02/2012 01:25

He temp went to 39.8 so I called out of hours it's only round the corner. Back now with penicillin uti as you all said. It's my dd 2nd birthday tomorrow/today and we have a full day out planned hope I can stay awake.

Oh, poor little chap (and you!). Hope the ABs kick in quickly and he feels better very soon.

HidingInTheBathroom · 20/02/2012 17:19

Hi again. So my DS has started antibitoics in early hours of this morning. He is full dosed of calpol and nurefen. He is being really lethagic and is still running a high fever. Just took a temperature reading and it's 40 Shock

Is this normal for him to be ill even after antibitoics and fever reducing medicine.

He is really sleepy bless him and I just want him to get better.

Hi Hiding, if he doesn't seem to respond to the Calpol and Ibuprofen, I'd take him to A&E to be honest. 40 is the Scary number for me. Hope he'll get beeter soon!

leftmymistletoeatthedoor · 20/02/2012 19:02

40 even with paracetamol / nurofen is NOT ok. Go get him checked tonight please. I was in this situation when ds had pneumonia - they hospital gave him a triple dose of nurofen to bring it down so there are things they can do. He may also need stronger antibiotics.

Let us know how he gets on.

HidingInTheBathroom · 20/02/2012 19:25

I called the out of hours got another appointment at 8. They asked me if the doctor had tested his waters which they haven't. The woman said the doc should of because there is no way of knowing if it is A water infection otherwise. Sad

I'll keep you updated
