TMI alert: 5 mo doing slimy, mucusy poos

For the last few weeks DD has been doing really slimy poos that smell mucusy and snotty. I mentioned it to the HV who was somewhat stumped and said she hadn't come across it before. DD is also windy at night but fine during the way and waking every hour or so.

Any ideas? Does it point to something sinister or is it normal?

Isn't the snotty texture a sign it's diorrhea? Not sure though...maybe take to GP?

Hmm I think I will. Just canvassing for opinions. Don't want to be the pfb new mum that runs to the doctor at every sniff

I think with babies they don't mind at all Smile

Does your baby have a cold. If so, this can be pretty normal IME (disclaimer, not a medic, mum of 3). They swallow all their mucus then it either comes up in their posset or out in their nappies. If you don't want to go straight to GP you could try calling HV first.

Take her to the GP if you're worried. I've never found HV to be helpful (they always tell me to Ho yo the GP when they are stumped). Is the poo also slightly green in colour rather than the usual yellow? Is so, it maybe an infection. Get it checked out for your peace of mind.

Im sure DS1 had this a bit when teething, as they are swallowing more saliva. Is she teething?

Elfontheedge · 11/02/2012 23:13

Could be teething. Have made appt with GP so we'll see what she says.
