If a child is unwell it;s OK to just let them sleep, right?

DS (almost 5) is uwell today highish temp (38-39), hot, been sick once, says his tummy hurts. Worryingly he also said his neck hurt this morning so I am on the lookout for any other symptoms.
We came back from dropping DD at the CMs and he has just laid on the sofa and fallen asleep. Is this OK? Obviously I check on him every half hour to make sure hes got no worse, check for rashes and make him drink, but should I see this in itself as him getting worse?
He's rarely like this, usually if he's sick he's claiming to be fine, racing round the house and asking for chocolate buttons Confused.

In your situation I'd phone my GP surgery and ask to talk to the duty doctor for advice. They usually call back quickly and tbh they ask to see them just to be on the safe side. Especially since this is so out of character.

Hope he feels better soon :)

Do you think when he said his neck hurt he meant that or his throat?
I would also ring doctors and get some advice. Hope he's better soon x

My ds is also a kid who never 'gives in' to illness iyswim so if he were as you describe I'd get him checked.

The only time he's been like that is with a tummy bug once and an ear infection. Your sons sore neck could be ear pain referred and sore tummy could be glands and sickness could be due to balance issues but obviously its hard to say.

Hmm well five mins after typing this I went to check on him and he woke up. He says his tummy and neck (good point that he may mean throat - he's had an awful cough so it may even be down to that) are fine and that he's better! I'm going to give him some dry toast in an hour and just see how he goes. He's still hot but does seem almost back to normal otherwise, just subdued. Thanks everyone.

Glad to hear he's perked up.
