should I worry?

He has a lump on his abdomen area which the doctor has looked at (and the hospital) but they both said it was just a lump of fatty tissue and nothing to worry about. Do you think this is the same thing? It's the location that's worrying me but I didn't want to make an 'emergency' appointment.

Anyone else had something similar?

How old is he. When I was bf my ds when he was about 6 months he got a lump around his nipple and when i took him to gp they said it was just due to my hormones or something being built up in him due to the bf?

He's 10.

Fatty deposits around the nipple are not that uncommon. My DS had a couple around the age of 12 and they were nothing to worry about.

It's possible that this is something called gynaecomasty -- normal, harmless lump under the nipple at the start of puberty, which both my boys have had (and which had me very worried for the first one). I'm sure you're right to get it checked out in case it'snot that, all the same.

My DS is 2 and has a small pea sized lump on his chest. It grew over about 6 months and we were v worried. The GP said it is a calcified follicle and he can have it removed when he's older. His lump wasn't attached to anything (ie not stuck to a rib)which I think was a good sign. It has purplish skin on the top of it. Have it checked if you're at all worried Smile

FelicityElectricity · 09/02/2012 15:47

Sorry OP just saw that you've had it checked Smile

I did have his other lump checked out and it's nothing to worry about but this is a new one and seems to have got to a reasonable size quite quickly and is harder than the other one. The other one has been there for so long, first got it checked when he was about 3 and then again a few months ago.

DS had one under one nipple about that age. I think it's just a hormonal thing - it looked a bit like he'd have been about to start growing a breast if he'd been a girl. It went away in a few weeks IIRC.
