6mo baby nose bleed in the night

DD2 has had the remnants of a cold and blocked nose for weeks. The very dry air with the cold weather is not helping. When she wakes at night she is blocked with dry, almost crystalised snot. I have been using saline drops/spray to clear her enough to BF at night. During the day its not a problem.

Last night I did the spray half asleep in the dark and then noticed she had blood coming from one nostril. It wasn't lots and stopped quickly. I was mortified and thought I had injured her with the saline spray.

Do babies with colds get nose bleeds? Should I get her checked because her nose is still blocked after a month?

my dd is the same, she is just 14mths and always gets a bit of a sore nose when she has a cold, and it bleeds, i think its just because the lining of the nose is so delicate and the blood vessels inside the nose can burst easily. its quite normal and doesnt seem to bother my dd so i have never taken her to the dr. ongoing colds are normal this time of year, esp with alittle baby, they dont recover from one before getting another one.

if she is otherwise fine and feeding well etc i wouldnt bother seeing a dr, you can always see a hv if you are worried, but ime with 5 children its quite normal :)

My six month d has a similar cold (much worse at night) and I have noticed blood in her snot too. I just assumed it was from the very delicate capillaries in the nostrils.

Thank you for your replies!

4madboys you were very reassuring, she protests every time I do the saline drops and I started to worry I was hurting her, then with the nose bleed I became convinced I had injured her. I don't shove the drops up her nose obviously but in the dark I was not sure I hadn't done it. Although now I think of it she would have screamed blue murder if I had hurt her like that! She is a very vocal LO.

She is 6 months old and has had 5 colds, sigh.

oh she just doesnt like the nasal drops and nor does my dd, she doesnt like having her nose wipes either, screams blue murder, i am not hurting her she just doesnt like it! but i am yet to meet a baby taht happily has its nose wiped, so i think thats normal as well!

babies get one cold a month in the first year of their life on average so your dd is normal in that respect, hope she gets well soon :)

DD1 didn't get a single cold or tummy bug until she was 11months old!

Compared with that DD2 is a living, breathing germ factory.

Maybe hadn't appreciated my luck first time round....

i think that is also common with first babies, ds1 had one cold as a baby and didnt really get ill till he started nursery at 13mths, my others have all got colds much earlier, its what happens when you have siblings!
