Hi,

He seems ok and doesn't look to be in agony or anything but it is swollen and when I changed his nappy i wiped it and he flinched a little.

Should I go to the GP? I should add that my GP is worse than useless!

Thanks!

Yes, without doubt you should go to a GP. Damage can be irreversible and very serious.

Shocking GP! Looked it up on her intranet and said it could be thrush but she wasn't sure, took a swab and said results back next week - no rush then. Told me to bring him back if it gets worse. Worse than what? It's swollen and red and sore, how bad should it be?! No, if it gets redder. Fecking useless. Waited an hour to be seen with a cranky 2 year old and given prescription for Canesten, could've got that at supermarket grrr grrr grrrrr!

Ah, well I did a fair bit of Googling myself....am practically a GPWink....and some other mothers on another site said their boys had had this and then it had gone away with a bit of cream! (I have three boys, 9,8 and 3 and only the 8 yr old had an issue with his bits....which resulted in an operation for what we thought was a torsion in his testicle but was a small hernia just above it. This was noted by pain in his leg and groin area but not his testicle followed by swelling of one side of his testicles) With boys bots if in doubt always check it out, if your son did have a torsion you would have six hours before the testicle dies. A fact I think all parents of boys should know.

Can you not see a different doc, or take him to out of hours?
When my DS was a similar age he had a swollen penis that was red and it was an infection that is common in young boy(cant remember name) was treated with antibiotic cream.
I wouldn't be happy to leave it a week

jaggythistle · 26/01/2012 20:22

balanitis devonsmummy?

DS got an antibiotic cream too.

devonsmummy · 26/01/2012 21:29

That's it jaggythistle!

Ds had canestan cream for his, but it was red on the end, not the base and his main symptom was wetting himself when he'd been reliably dry for over a year.
Least it's free on prescription. Wink
